Leitz 10X Microscope Objective for 170mm TL Microscopes

Pictured is a Leitz rather uncommon 10X microscope objective for 170mm tube length microscopes such as the Ortholux and some Orthoplans. The cosmetic and optical condition is excellent! To my mind this objective is unusual in regards to the black stop on the front piece of the lens. It is almost like it is intended to protect the lens with a fixed working distance. I first thought it was an add-on, however that whole black shroud is part of the optical lens nest. Puzzling to me all the same! There are no sings of scratches, fungus, dust or element separations, and it is intended to be used with a cover glass thickness of 0.17mm. It has a n.a. of 0.25.
